Art vs. Capitalism

Sanctum 4 ’ x 6’, oil on canvas , created 30 years ago by Greg Layton in front of the Eggtooth Gallery in Hatboro, MOntgomery County. All of my work deals w/ my interior world reactions to the outside world—emotional, spiritual, intelluctual, ethical, moral, and psychological. I heard an expert on the brain say that our sub -conscious is always duking it out w/ our consciousness. I understand this dichotomy about myself because I’ve been painting it for 40 yrs. Each piece is honest, authentic and transparent and made-in-America. So pull out those silly dollar bills and buy my art. Deb and I have to eat too.
VERSUS

Since the dollar bill isn’t worth anything except what someone tells us each day —which is the reason everyone’s buying up and hoarding gold—I have a gold-plated idea about something that is more precious and valuable than gold because each piece of currency is a unique, soul-ful, spiritual, one-of-a-kind precious commodity. Any original piece of art is worth more than any of these artificial values we place on the other objects in our life. It is truly the basis to the new economy because everybody, and I mean everybody, has a creative spark in that that is just waiting to be unleashed. they just don’t want to starve to death doing it. Buy fresh, buy local.
